Governments Role in Marriage
I have just recently figured out where I stand on the Federal government declaring homosexual marriage illegal and wrong.
I firmly believe that homosexual marriage is wrong and not natural. I believe God made us man and women for a reason and that we are suppose to marry and be with the opposite sex accordingly, but the Federal government being invovled is totally different. (Continue on below)
If many "christians" had their way the Federal government would declare homosexual marriage illegal and to them that would be that, but they haven't thought through the consequences and what really would be happening.
If the federal government declared homosexual marriage illegal that would give them the power to say that marriage is illegal and it would replace the church with government.
Marriage is a religious covenant between a man, women, and God. The church has witnessed this covenant and declared man and women husband and wife. The government should never have been invovled with marriage license etc. That is the churches role. We do not want the government having the authority to declare moral laws based on their opinion. If homosexual marriage was declared illegal by a president then another president can declare it legal or christianity illegal and we don't want the government having that type of power.
The responsibility belong to the church and community to communicate what is right and wrong and acceptable.
As far as insurance and things that are part of the conversation if we had a free market system some insurance companies would allow same sex unions and cover them and Christians would or anyone (if they disagreed) would leave and go to another company that didn't offer that. If the company lost enough money they would either shut down or change policy and vise versa. That is the power of the free market and freedom.
Also if things were being done correctly there would be no tax breaks for any marriage because there wouldn't be an income tax.
Think twice before giving the government authority to declare what is right and wrong in your life. You are responsible for your choices not them. The government doesn't declare what is right and wrong God does. We have to have the freedom to make wrong choices, otherwise we probably aren't free to make the right ones.
