Principles vs Details
VS
Principles Details
I have conversation with many people who have many different types of views on all issues. I like hearing the reason why people think what they think and try to respect all opinions.
One way of thinking that comes up in many discussions that I disagree with is a mindset I refer to as details over principles. This line of thinking would play out in a conversation like this
I may ask, "What are your views on abortion."
In reponse to my question someone I highly respect responded "I agree it is wrong and I believe we should outlaw it, but we just can't outlaw it because it would make it really difficult for doctors to work on a pregnant mother because he can't save the mother over the child, being a member of the medical community I'm not sure how we need to handle it, but we need to be careful with it. " (not exact wording but this idea)
This thinking that we shouldn't act to proclaim that life begins at conception due to a concern over how doctors will treat a very rare problem is ridiculous. We kill unborn children daily just because we have a few "details" to work out is insane.
We need to stick to the principles and work out the details instead of not doing what is right because of a few minor details. If you ever hear someone making the argument for details don't be fooled or confused. The right thing would be to stick to the principles of the constitution even if we haven't worked out the details.
