Rick Santorum (in review)

The Iowa Caucus is about a month away now and I feel it is important that I give where I stand on each candidate. Anyone who has read any post of mine probably knows I'm for Ron Paul, but that doesn't mean there aren't things that I like or dislike about all the other candidates. I will also add the key points to their page.

I started the primary season (in the spring/summer) thinking I would be voting for Herman Cain, but my mind has been changed so it is possible in the future that I update these reviews of the candidates with new information. I will start from the candidate that I think is least likely that I will vote for

Rick Santorum Bantam freedom score of 2 (out of a possible 10)
Key notes-
1. former senator for Pennsylvania
2. devout Catholic
3. strong family values

Conservative Strenghts (Conservative strenghts not what I believe is good)
Against abortion
Against Gay Marriage
For huge military and strong against terrorism
For Homeschooling

Conservative Weakness
For huge government intervention in your life
Believes law is there to "teach" (presidents should make laws based on their morals, not just the constitution)

I like Rick Santorum as a individual and I believe he does have good intentions and would make good decisions as a president based on his views, but he would be disastrous in the long run for America.
(Continue on below)

He believes that laws are there to teach and that we should make laws based on what we want to teach America about right and wrong. His thinking is if we outlaw abortion, gay marriage, etc we will teach America it is bad, but that isn't governments role.

The president that followed Rick Santorum (if he was a progressive liberal) would then have the power to make laws based on his morals and his views. If those morals and views are that Sharia law (muslim law) are right then the president would have the power to "teach America" what is right and wrong.

Our founders set up this nation very specifically to be free from this type of law making. We were suppose to have freedom of religion. If we give the power to make laws based on even the "good guys" morals then we are going to be in utter ruin when someone else gets in.

A candidate that isn't pledging strict adherence to the Constitution and freedom cannot be anywhere near the top of my list. His thinking is so dangerous it is the mindset that got Jews slaughtered by the millions. The thining that a politician can say what is right and wrong and that it doesn't ultimately lie with God and through our inalienable rights we can choose right and wrong is extremely dangerous even if the person thinking that way would use it for "good."

God allows free will and gives us the ability to choose wrong within our own lives I'd like the government to do the same.

If free will is good enough for God it is good enough for America.

Santurm is a strong conservative who would be very tough against terrorism (including American citizens) and he voted for the creation of "The Department of Homeland Security." Which is the agency that steps on our rights every day. He strongly supports the DHS and the Patriot Act.

Love his views on abortion (absolutely hates it) I just don't like how he would implement the law giving the Federal government MORE power.

I respect his views on gay marriage and understand that it is wrong, but that is for the church and community to deal with not the Federal government. Marriage is a covenant between man women and God, not government. Yeah tax loop holes, insurance etc, but marriages shouldn't get tax breaks because we shouldn't have an income tax system and insurance is a free market they can accept or not accept to cover "unions" from homosexual marriages.

Love his stance on homeschooling (But ron paul stands wrong for homeschooling as well. I'll have my cake and eat it to.)

For those that are bothered by Huntsman and Romney being mormons then you might not like Rick Santorum for being a Catholic (praying to other things other than Jesus such as Mary and the Saints) but I'm not bothered by him being a Catholic, but do think it would be a double standard for someone to mark one of the other candidates off of the list because of their beliefs if you didn't mark Santorum off for being a Catholic.

On a freedom scale I would say he ranks in my opinion about a 2 for his insane way of thinking, but for any hard core conservative that doesn't care about the constitution or freedom he really would probably make good choices during his presidency, but it is after him that scares me. I believe as of right now he would be the worst choice for president out of the 8 candidates that remain running for the GOP primary for the simple fact that I believe he would indirectly finish off the constitution with his decisions.
